St. Anthony's Ferona Church Kurumbanadam

The Forona Church of St. Anthony is a major pilgrimage center for believers located in Kurumbanadam near Madappally Grama Panchayat in Kottayam district. This church is located about 6 km east of Changanassery and about 800 meters from Perumpanachi Junction.

History

The first church was established in Kurumbanadam on 13 June 1837 under the leadership of 93 Catholic families.

Due to the increase in the number of believers, the construction of a new church began in 1844.

A minor seminary also began functioning here in 1843. It holds an important place in the history of clerical education in Kerala.

The construction of the present church began in 1961 and was consecrated in 1967 by the Archbishop of Changanassery, Mar Mathew Kavukat.

Later, the Kurumbanadam Church was elevated to the Forona Church.
