Madappally is a village that was donated by the King of Thekkumkur to the Edappally Swaroop as a land route during the royal rule. “Madu” means a small hill. “Palli” also means a village. The village of the madus (hills) became Madappally. Hindus and Christians make up the majority of the population in the panchayat. There are also many places of worship for people of different castes and religions in the panchayat. St. Thomas Church, St. Mary’s Church, St. Anthony’s Church, CSI churches in Mammoodu and Venkotta, Thengana Shiva Temple, Madappally Bhagavathy Temple, Kurumbanadan Palli, and Thenganaal Juma Masjid are the main places of worship in the panchayat. The main festivals of the panchayat are the Shivaratri festival at the Thengana Shiva temple, the St. Anthony's Church Perunnal, and the Perunnals of other churches. Madappally is a panchayat with an active library movement. The Thengana Public Library, Kalpana Library, and Pangipuram Library are among the cultural highlights of the panchayat. The first school in the panchayat is the Government Primary School located in Perumpanachi. The major district road, Changanassery-Vazhoor Road, passes through the middle of the panchayat. The panchayat has good road transport. Changanassery-Vazhoor, Perumthuruthy-Manarkad, and Perumpanachi-Thottakkad roads are also major roads passing through the panchayat. There are many small-scale industries in Madappally panchayat. Rubber-based industries are the most common in the small-scale industries. There are about 23 industrial units in this sector. Grain processing is another important industry. There are 13 grain processing units in the panchayat. There are also about eight other small industrial units such as plastic product manufacturing, wood industry, soda manufacturing. The main trading center in the panchayat is Tengan. There are several health treatment centers that are actively working in the field of medical care within the panchayat. The primary health center is functioning in Madappally. An Ayurvedic hospital is functioning in Kannotta. There are two homeopathic hospitals in Madappally, including a government homeopathic hospital. Medical Mission Hospital and Mercy Hospital are private sector hospitals. Govt. L.P. School Madappally and Govt. L.P. School Kurumbanadam are the main government schools in the panchayat. In the private sector, there are 8 schools functioning in the panchayat, including St. Peter's HSS Kurumbanadam, St. Shanthal's School Mammood, and St. Sebastian UPS Mammood. These include 4 LP schools and 2 UP schools.
