Panchayat Level Tree Committee
A tree committee has been formed at the panchayat level to protect trees standing on public roads and public places and to avoid accidents that may occur due to uprooting or breaking of trees and their branches.
Tree committees have been formed at the panchayat level as per the circular No. 248/RC3/2016/Tasvabhava dated 14.07.2017 of the Local Self-Government Department. At present, the tree committee works at the local level to avoid delays in cases where permission from the district level tree committee is required for cutting trees and to take decisions in a timely manner in emergency situations.
Composition of the committee
- Panchayat President – Chairman
- Panchayat Secretary – Convener
- Village Officer – Member
- Forest Department Range Officer / Representative – Member
Main Responsibilities
- Check whether the trees and branches in public places pose a danger.
- Take necessary action regarding trees that pose a threat to the life and property of the public.
- Instruct the owners to cut down dangerous trees owned by private individuals.
- In cases of non-compliance with the instruction, take relevant legal action and recover the cost from the concerned person.
- Ensure that the valuation of the trees to be cut is done through the Forest Department.
- Coordinate tree protection activities within the limits of the Panchayat and ensure a safe environment.
The Panchayat Level Tree Committee is working with the aim of ensuring both public safety and environmental protection.
